Out of curiosity, fashion photographer Ru Yi (Ning Chang) takes a photo of a couple (James Wen and Zhou Hen Yin) having sex in an apartment across the street from her home. Through further investigation, she finds out that the two are having an extramarital affair. When Ru Yi's novelist sister Ru Xing sees the pictures, she uses them to get over her latest bout with writer's block by incorporating it into her latest novel. However, Ru Yi later suspects that the man may have killed his lover and her sister may even have something to do with it.

Perhaps what makes The Founding of a Republic such an attention grabber and commercial triumph is the huge ensemble cast that has come together under the great patriotic cause this movie represents. Over a hundred big-name Chinese showbiz personalities get starring roles in the event film, including many international superstars that reportedly make cameo appearances for free. Occupying the main roles are Tang Guoqiang (playing Mao Zedong), Zhang Guoli (Chiang Kai Shek), Xu Qing (Soong Ching Ling), Vivian Wu (Soong Mei Ling), Aloys Chen (Chiang Ching Kuo), Liu Jin (Zhou Enlai), Wang Wufu (Zhu De), and Wang Xueqi (Li Tsung Jen). In supporting parts there are Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, Vicki Zhao, Huang Xiaoming, Liu Ye, Guo Xiaodong, Tong Dawei, Ge You, Hu Jun, Zhang Hanyu, Chen Hao, Ning Jing, Eva Huang, Chen Daoming, and Jiang Wen. Add to the mix popular Hong Kong movie stars like Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Donnie Yen, Tony Leung Ka Fai, and the stargazing still doesn't end there - even A-list directors Chen Kaige and Feng Xiaogang are onboard taking rare turns in front of the camera!

The My Own Swordsman film continues to follow the people of Tong Fu Inn - owner Tong Xiang Yu (Yan Ni), temperamental waiter/daughter of powerful martial artist Guo Fu Rong (Yao Chen), thief-turned-waiter Bai Zhang Tang (Sha Yi), and restaurant accountant/wordplay master Lu Xiu Cai (Yu En Tai). Their troubles first begin when Fu Rong unleashes martial arts fury on a fleeing former government official. After nearly dying at the hands of the incompetent restaurant staff, the official stays in the town and enacts a complex real estate scam that would drive up home prices based on speculation. Meanwhile, the official also hires assassin Ji Wu Li (Wang Lei) to exact revenge on the restaurant staff, not knowing that Li is also out kill the Tong Fu restaurant staff for his own reasons.
