Paperback. INCLUDES: Detailed Maps; Muskie Strategies; Fishing Tips... INTRO: What happens? Why do muskie have the power over fishers that they have? Sure, it doesn't affect everyone, but there is no doubt that for many of us it becomes disease-like. It's a serious addiction, more powerful than the ones expert doctor-types pontificate on the national news; like drugs and alcohol. Muskie get to be quite overwhelming. Somewhere along the line it certainly became that way for me. I really didn't care to fish for, or for anything other than muskie. Oh sure, prior to the muskie season opening, the other was fine. I enjoyed fishing for horse suckers (the first open-water fishing of the year), trout and non. walleye and panfish, whatever But, once the muskie season opened, forget it. The spinning rods were stored in place for the rest of the season, knowing from past experience they would see little or no use until the following spring. Their only hope for activity was the chance that a family member may need to borrow one. There are likely many reasons for this. A big one, of course, has previously been mentioned and is no doubt, a factor. Ego plays a huge part in making folks obsessed with going after the toughest of the tough..

Kevin Bacon stars in this quickie sports film that's really more a culture-clash comedy. He plays an assistant coach at the college-basketball level who's looking for that big, big recruiting score and finds it in a distant African village. But his quarry, a seven-footer (Charles Gitona Maina) he spots in an anthropology film, turns out to be the prince of his tribe who's in line for the crown and has no interest in becoming fodder for Sports Center. So it's up to the callous American to convince him that he wants to give this all up to live in a dorm and chase coeds (while, of course, honoring his ancestors). Unfortunately, the jokes are stale and the basketball footage is nothing to get excited about. --Marshall Fine
